KENNINGTON SNAGS PODIUM FINISH AT DELAWARE
June 3, 2017. DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team were happy to see Delaware Speedway back on the 2017 NASCAR Pinty’s Series schedule and Kennington continued his strong performances at the track near London, Ontario on Saturday night. After posting the quickest time in practice Kennington scored a third place finish in the 250-lap race.
It was no surprise that Kennington posted the fast time during afternoon practice with the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. “This is my favorite race track,” said Kennington. “I grew up here and raced here so much, it’s felt like coming home,” he added.
All including the driver were surprised that Kennington posted only the 7th best time in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge during group qualifying later in the day. “The track definitely changed. It happens sometimes here, we made some adjustments for the race that we hoped would help us later on,” he explained.
When the green flag waved for the 250-lap feature event the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was on the move. Kennington was pleased with the early success but there was a long way to go. “It was good to get a couple spots, but the car still wasn’t quite right for the conditions” he stated.
During pit stops for fuel and two tires the crew also made handling adjustments to the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge and Kennington maintained his position near the front of the field. As the race laps ticked away once again the handling was an issue.
The race was slowed by a caution period and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team made another stop for two tires and a handling adjustment hoping to correct the problem. While better it still wasn’t perfect, but now it was completely in the hands of the driver.
Kennington pushed and maneuvered the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge as hard as he could and collected a third place result in the second event of the season. “We were just too free,” said Kennington. “The guys did a great job, the whole Castrol gang was great, so pleased to pick up another podium finish, wish it was the top step but still a good result and we’re looking forward to the next race at Chaudière”.
The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team returns to action Saturday June 17th at the Autodrome Chaudière.
